
Canada had a government several hundred years before our present federal Parliament in Ottawa, Ontario.
The Iroquois of southern Ontario and Quebec joined to unite their warring nations in peace. Fifty chiefs were named to represent and make law for all the people. So, technically, the first Canadian government called themselves the League of the Iroquois.
